What video software should i use for a highlight video?

I am making a highlight video of big hits for my football team from the videos of our games last season. So I need a software that will allow me to take just a short clip out of a full game and use it inside the highlight video. Also needs to be able to put music into the video. What video software should i use for a highlight video?
Free options would be: Video Spin, Jump Cut, Windows Movie Maker, and WAX. I haven't used any of these so can't directly speak towards their abilities or feature sets. But they are free, so you can start with these and see if any seem to fit the bill.

Pay, but affordable: AVS Video Editor, Sony Vegas Movie Studio, Corel Ulead Video Studio, Pinnacle Studio, and Adobe Premiere Elements. All of these have free trials so you can test them out and see if they are worth paying for. I would expect them to have more robust feature sets than the free ones. I think AVS or Sony would be 'easier' ones to learn possibly, at least by reputation. I think Adobe is the most robust of the set, but also the most expensive.
